HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) â€" The father of former NFL player Eugene Wilson has been indicted in federal court of defrauding three people of $1.6 million.

The indictment against 55-year-old Eugene W. Wilson of Merrillville was filed Jan. 4 and unsealed Thursday. He is charged with eight counts of wire fraud and four counts of structuring bank deposits to evade reporting requirements. The indictment says Wilson promised three people, who were identified only by initials, a high rate of return for their investments and instead transferred the funds to foreign banks or spent it.

He is being held without bond pending a detention hearing Tuesday. Court records do not show he has hired an attorney.

The younger Wilson was a defensive back with the New England Patriots from 2003-07 and with the Houston Texans 2008-10.
