The Rice Owls sweep the Marshall Thundering Herd on Sunday, setting up a showdown with the nationally-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Tuesday.
Apr 15, 2012 - The Rice Owls baseball team boosted their record to 26-11 on the season as another steady start on the mound by junior right-hander Andrew Benak pushed the Owls to a 3-1 Conference USA victory over Marshall. With the win on Sunday afternoon the Owls keep pace with the UCF Knights with an 8-3 conference record.
Benak shut down the Marshall bats with a career-long 6.2 innings, struck out nine batters and gave up just four hits without any walks to improve his season record to 5-1. Jeremey Rathjen hit solo home run to left-center field in the 4th inning gave the Owls a 2-0 lead. The homer was Rathjen's seventh of the season.
Rice plays at nationally-ranked Texas A&M on Tuesday, April 17, in College Station, Texas. First pitch against the Aggies is slated for 6:35 pm Central Time.
