Tomorrow is the day when Jeremy Lin signs the offer sheet with the Rockets; I'm still very against signing him. I've gone over the multiple reasons for this opinion in previous posts, but it boils down to a very basic belief that his brief level of good play isn't worth the money being offered. Lin burst on to the scene on February 4th with a 25 point game against Utah, and followed his great debut performance up with 5 straight 20+ point games, averaging 27.2 points per game over that span. That level of performance didn't last though; during March his per game averages dropped off by 6.3 points, 2.1 assists, and 5.5% on field goal percentage. Lin had a very nice 12 game stretch during February, but his sharp drop-off after that suggests to me a return to the mean and maybe that "Linsanity" was a fluke. In my opinion the Rockets move reeked of desperation coming off the rejection from Dwight Howard, Goran Dragic, and attempts to move up during the draft. Fortunately for Houston, the Knicks are more brain dead on Lin's value than even the Rockets, and it appears to be a lock that they'll match the offer in the coming days.
In an effort to cope with my frustration over this issue, I wrote a limerick. Not a very good one, but I hope it gives you a laugh; even if its at my expense.
"Morey tried to sign a guard named Lin,
To bolster a position that was thin.
A very flawed plan,
For a flash in the pan.
Thankfully the Knicks are even more dim."
