Roger Clemens Comeback: Houston Astros Would Be Smart to Pursue Former ... - Bleacher Report

Roger Clemens and the Houston Astros have fallen on hard times and need each other now more than ever before.

According to Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle:

Astros owner Jim Crane insisted that Roger Clemens isn’t part of the team’s “long-term plans” on the field, but he certainly didn’t deny that there are short-term possibilities and benefits to Clemens pitching at Minute Maid Park again.

The Astros are the worst team in MLB. They need a boost. Crane would be smart to capitalize on any opportunity to bring in some fans to his ballpark. I know I'd pay to see Clemens back on the mound, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

According to the AP, Clemens is scheduled to start on Saturday for the Sugar Land Skeetersâ€"part of the independent Atlantic League. If he looks good, the Astros should jump at the chance to bring in the 50-year-old legend to bolster ticket sales in what's been an otherwise abysmal year in Houston.

Do you want to see Roger Clemens in an Astros jersey in 2012?

Do you want to see Roger Clemens in an Astros jersey in 2012?

  • Yes

  • No

Clemens is attempting to revitalize his waning career after being acquitted of any wrongdoing in the matter of whether or not he lied to Congress about taking PEDs. A move back to Houston, where he won his seventh Cy Young Award, would be the perfect way for him to make his long-awaited return to the big leagues.

It's a marriage made in heaven, and would benefit both sides.

Now, it's just a matter of seeing if the Rocket still has enough fuel left in his tank to make it happen. Heck, if Jamie Moyer can do it, why not Clemens?
