Houston Astros: They Should Seriously Consider Larry Bowa for Manager - Bleacher Report

Larry Bowa had an interview for the Houston Astros' managerial vacancy according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Rosenthal thinks that this is a good idea, and I am definitely inclined to agree with him.

Bowa has experience turning franchises aroundâ€"like he did with the Philadelphia Phillies.

When he came to Philadelphia in 2001, the team had not finished above .500 since 1993. In fact, in that time period, they had lost over 90 games on three separate occasions. The team was almost always near the bottom of the division, and they needed some type of fire.

Bowa definitely has the right type of mindset for this type of job. In his first season with the Phillies, they did indeed finish at 86-76. Over his four seasons in Philadelphia, he only led the club to a record under .500 when they went 80-81 in 2002.

They also never finished under third place in the division, which was definitely a step in the right direction for a franchise that was having significant troubles.

Even though Larry Bowa was never quite able to lead Philadelphia to the postseason, he began to establish a winning culture in that city. While, obviously, Charlie Manuel deserves a lot of credit for making the Phillies into a powerhouse, it could be argued that the process really started with Bowa and Manuel put together the final pieces.

There will probably be a lot of interview candidates, but the Houston Astros need to give Larry Bowa some serious consideration. He knows how to win baseball games.
