Houston Texans "Run" through Jacksonville and the Jaguars - isportsweb.com (blog)

A week after beating the Miami Dolphins 30-10, the Houston Texans set their sights on the Jacksonville Jaguars. After the win against the Dolphins and 2 TD’s from RB Arian Foster head coach Gary Kubiak still wasn’t happy with the running game. He made that apparent with his comments after the game: “That’s the mark of a good team â€" you’ve got to run it and finish the game,” Kubiak said Monday. “We didn’t do that.” He spoke and the team listened and performed this week. The Texans ran the ball 48 times total and gained 216 yards on the ground on their way to a 27-7 win over the Jags. Arian Foster finished with 28 carries for 110 yards and a TD while back up Ben Tate had 12 carries for 74 yards and 2 TD’s. Texans 3rd RB Justin Fosrsett even got in late and was effective with 6 carries for 35 yards during the victory. Kubiak had this to say after the game about the teams performance in the running game this week: “We showed against the Jaguars what we’re capable of doing.” The Texans may have the best RB tandem in the league and the ability to keep all their RB’s fresh is a huge advantage. The Texans showed this during the game over and over as the 2 gouged the Jaguars defense early and often.

Matt Schaub was also on point for this weeks game. After a great game against the Dolphins he kept it rolling this week going 26-35 for 195 yards. Schaub who was lost to injury last season is a key to the Texans success this season. In order for the team to make a deep playoff run they’ll need Schaub’s experience and arm out there. He was accurate and threw the ball all around this week hitting 7 different receivers on the day. TE Owen Daniels led the team in receptions and yards for the day, as the Jags had WR Andre Johnson blanketed with double teams all game.

The Texans defense got it done for a 2nd straight week. After only allowing 10 points to the Dolphins they put the clamps down on Gabbert and the Jags offense this week, only allowing 117 total yards. At the half QB Blaine Gabbert had -4 passing yards to his name. The Texans front 7 were continuously disintegrating the pocket and making things quite uncomfortable for Gabbert all day. DE JJ Watt had his name all over this game once again just as he did last week. He deflected another 2 passes from the line and also got 1.5 sacks against the Jags. Watt now has 3 sacks and 5 pass deflections on the year already. At this rate he’ll once again lead the Texans defense in pass deflections, that’s saying a lot considering he’s on a team with great secondary play.

Texans DE JJ Watt is living up to expectations so far this season with his full stat sheet of 8 tackles , 3 sacks, and 5 deflected passes.
