Aggies Will Have Radically Different Defensive Staff Next Season

Big changes are coming for Texas A&M, and it's not just about new head coach Kevin Sumlin. The defense appears to be going through an extensive makeover, as the Aggies hope to compliment Sumlin's offensive acumen with a strong defensive presence.

Last time they went looking, the Aggies came up with Tim DeRuyter, who turned things around and made Von Miller the No. 2 pick in the draft. But, now DeRuyter is the head coach at Fresno State and is taking linebackers coach Nick Toth with him, who was a big part of the Aggie defensive success (as it were) the past two seasons. The fact he got any production out of Jonathan Stewart is, frankly, shocking.

One guy who won't be on Sumlin's staff is former Aggie and Dallas Cowboy star Dat Nguyen. It's a little disappointing that Nguyen, one of the most popular Aggie players in years, won't be around. But, having a clean slate should make the job more interesting for some of the big-name defensive coordinators, like Michigan State's Pat Narduzzi.

However it shakes out, it appears the Aggies will have some wholesale turnover on defense. Hopefully, they get that fixed before going up against the high-powered offenses in the SEC.
