HOUSTON - Texas Southern University formally introduced Darrell Asberry as the Tigers new head football coach on Tuesday.
He replaces Kevin Ramsey, who served one year on an interim-basis and will stay with TSU as defensive coordinator.
Asberry joins TSU from Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., where he was 40-25 in five years and won three CIAA titles.
TSU athletics director Charles McClelland told FOX 26 Sports he and Asberry are in the process of finalizing the new coach's contract.
"Currently we're working on a four-year deal for Coach Asberry," McClelland said. "There's still some details that need to be worked out, but we're looking in the 4-year range.
"We're looking at $185,000 a year."
McClelland said the two sides still have to take care of some of the incentives in the deal to "make sure we give him a fair and equitable contract, but one that's going to protect Coach Asberry as well as protect Texas Southern University."
