HOUSTON - Former Texas Tech quarterback Jacob Karam told FOX 26 Sports he is transferring to the University of Memphis.
Karam, who was a star quarterback at Friendswood High School, is a red-shirt sophomore.
He graduated from Texas Tech last month magna cum laude with a degree in university studies/pre-law in two-and-a-half years.
Karam still has two years of eligibility left and according to NCAA rules can play immediately at Memphis.
"I committed to the University of Memphis to win," Karam said. "Coach (Justin) Fuente has this program going in the right direction. His staff is elite and this program is about to be turned around in a major way.
"I'm so blessed to have this opportunity to be a part of this."
Karam played in five games for Texas Tech in 2011 and was 9-17 for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
"(Memphis) was the clearest-cut option for me at this point," Karam said. "It was a no-brainer. Although I got some very good consideration from schools all around the country, this was the best place for me and this is where I'm supposed to be."
