The Texans QB carousel has been a revolving door all season and now they will rely on a rookie to take them on a Super Bowl run.
Matt Schaub, Matt Leinart both lost for the year and rookie T.J. Yates is the man with the keys to the Texans offense.
Yates, after leading the Texans to a come from behind win 4 weeks ago on the road has struggled of late but his coach still believes he's the man for the job.
"He's very young and this is a big, big game but he's the best guy for our football team," said Gary Kubiak.
"If he is able to go and do the things that we need him to do in practice, then we will turn him loose and let him go," Kubiak added.
Yates suffered a left shoulder injury on the first series Sunday in a loss to the Titans. He finished the drive but came out and was replaced by Jake Delhomme who would finish the game.
The Texans open their first playoff run at home Saturday on a 3 game losing streak. The team has struggled since clinching at Cincinnati but Kubiak knows his guys will be ready.
"You can talk about it all you want," said Kubiak. " But they have to go experience it. They'll see the energy and difference in the speed of play and the energy when they show up on Saturday."
"I don't think it will take them long to see the difference, probably two or three plays on Saturday to see that the tempo will go up," said Kubiak.
After 10 years as a franchise, this is the first major step.
"This is where we want to go as an organization and playing games like this, win a championship, we have to learned to do this. I'm looking forward to the first one," he said.
Kickoff is at 3:30 on KPRC Local 2 on his Saturday.
