The Houston Texans began their quest Saturday afternoon against the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL wildcard playoff.
Reliant Stadium, which has 71,500 seats, was sold out for the game.
Rookie quarterback T.J. Yates started for the Texans. His career catapulted when Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart suffered injuries that ended their seasons early.
The Bengals' rookie quarterback, Andy Dalton, has a Houston connection.
The Katy native and TCU alum faced off against the Texans in his hometown.
However, Dalton missed practice this week because of the flu and went to the hospital Wednesday morning. Head coach Marvin Lewis said Dalton is feeling better.
This was the first time in NFL history that two rookie quarterbacks started in a playoff game.
Third-string quarterback Jeff Garcia, signed on Dec. 7, was one of seven inactive players for the Texans, who are making their postseason debut. Receiver Jeff Maehl, cornerback Brandon Harris, safety Troy Nolan, offensive linemen Thomas Austin and Andrew Gardner and tight end Garrett Graham were also inactive for Houston.
Safety Taylor Mays is among seven players on the inactive list for the Bengals.
Mays also sat out the regular-season finale with a hamstring injury. Safety Robert Sands, linebacker Dontay Moch, guard Otis Hudson, offensive tackle Anthony Collins, receiver Armon Binns and defensive tackle Nick Hayden were also inactive for the Bengals.
Texans fans have waited 10 years for their team to reach the postseason. It's the first time the Texans have made it past the regular season in franchise history.
