Bill Connelly over at the Big .Com talked about the fine play of your Houston Cougars in their dismantling of the big-time Big 10 defense of Penn State.
My favorite number?
211: Yardage margin after each teamâs first five drives. Houston gained 255 yards on 36 plays (7.1 per play), scored 17 points and missed a field goal; Penn State gained 34 yards on 17 plays (2.0) and punted five times. For the rest of the game, things were mostly even (points: Penn State 14, Houston 13; yards: Houston 345, Penn State 272), but only one team was prepared out of the gates. In the game preview, I mentioned that Houston needed to strike early before Penn State adapted to their style. To say the least, they did.
Thatâs right. Houston outgained Penn State by 211 yardsâ¦after the first five drives!!
Case Keenum and the Cougars acquitted themselves very well in this one and Connelly has the numbers to prove it.
