HOUSTON (CBS-Houston) â" The sports world knew that something special was happening on the campus of Baylor University during football season as multi-talented junior quarterback, Robert Griffin III grabbed the world by the axis and won the Heisman Trophy, an award given to the nationâs top college football player.
In addition to that, Head Football Coach Art Briles and his 13th nationally ranked Bears finished 10-3 on the season after a thrilling 67-56 Alamo Bowl shootout with the Washington Huskies.
Certainly canât overlook what Womenâs Head Coach Kim Mulkey and her Lady Bears are doing as they are the number 2 basketball team in the nation at 18-0 just behind Tennessee.
With that, the Bears are almost sitting on top of the college sports world. Realistically, they are if you factor in Head Coach Scott Drewâs menâs basketball team ranked number 3 in the country and 18-1 on the season.
ONE THEY CAN LIVE WITHOUT
The Baylor Bears suffered their first loss of the season on last Monday to Kansas and Head Coach Bill Self, 92-74. Baylor is now 2-17 all-time versus Kansas. However, prior to that loss, the Bears had won 18 consecutive contests.
âWell, we got off to a great start as did our Womenâs team and football ending with 40 straight victories,â says Drew. â(So), the pressure was on to keep winning and we all kept doing that.â
