The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in need of a new head coach, has been given permission by the Texans and will interview Texans Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips for the job, KPRC Local 2 Sports confirmed.Â
ESPN's John Clayton and the Houston Chronicle reported Sunday that the Bucs had asked permission to speak with Phillips and were granted that opportunity. That meeting will likely take place in Houston as the Texans prepare for their second round playoff game at Baltimore.
Phillips indicated last week he wants a chance to be a Head Coach again.Â
Former Texas A&M Coach Mike Sherman interviewed this past week and is considered a strong contender for the job.
Sherman is well respected as an NFL Head Coach after his run in Green Bay.
