Do the Houston Rockets Want Dwight Howard? - From Russian With Dunk

Dwight Howard

Reports have come out that the Houston Rockets are looking to move up in the draft with the possibility of completing a trade for Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard. The Rockets first expressed interest in Howard last season, even though they knew that the chances of him resigning with the team are unlikely.

If Houston was able to do this trade, they would likely first need to trade with either Toronto or Sacramento to acquire a top-10 pick in the draft. Along with that pick, the Rockets have the 14th pick which is their own. The Nets would have had this pick if the Rockets had made the playoffs. If Houston traded both of these picks, along with some other pieces, for Dwight Howard, the Magic would be in a good position to rebuild quickly, which is what they want to do. The Magic have not yet hired a head coach.

Even though this trade has been reported as a possibility, I think that the chances of something like this happening is very, very unlikely. The biggest reason why this will not happen is that Howard has expressed no interest in Houston whatsoever, and Houston will not have the pieces around Howard to compete for a championship next year. Houston would likely lose Howard to free agency after next season and then start a long rebuilding process. Dwight is still telling the Magic that the Brooklyn Nets are his first choice.
