Over 100 young girls and boys basketball players, aged 8 to 16 were being run through the drills at the Lake Howell High School on Monday as part of the "O Hoops" skills camp.
Campers received instruction from a coaching staff that included former Silverhawk, and Florida Gators forward Chandler Parsons.
The Casselberry native just wrapped up his rookie season with the NBA's Houston Rockets...averaging just under 10 points a game, and earning a spot on the NBA All-Rookie second team.
Parsons is glad to be giving back at the place where it all started for him.
"It's incredible to be able to help these kids, and help the community. It's unbeliveable for me. I've lived in the same house my whole life. From Sterling Park Elementary, to South Seminole to here at Lake Howell, it's an amazing feeling to help out these kids because I was in the same situation one day, and I would have loved someone from my area to look up to, and to learn from. It's just a blessing to be here in this situation"
After Monday's on court skills sessions, some of the younger campers got the opportunity to sit in on a press conference-style "meet & greet" in which the kids were permitted to lob questions at Parsons, former Gators point guard Taurean Green, and Virginia Commonwealth star Joey Rodriguez, who also played with Parsons at Lake Howell.
One of the more entertaining questions asked of Parsons: "What did it feel to dunk on Blake Griffin?" After a quick pause, Parsons quipped that "It was fun, because he gets to dunk on everybody else!
Parson's "O Hoops" camp will continue through Thursday.
