Â
NBA sources have confirmed the Rockets will give Lee the required tender by June 30th that makes him a restricted free agent. They will match any offer given to Courtney and bring him back next season.
NBA sources have also confirmed Houston will exercise Budingerâs upcoming option in his contract bringing him back next season for only $942,293 during the 2012-2013 schedule.
I expected the Rockets to bring back Lee with his great play after taking over for the disappointing Kevin Martin who went down with an injury after having a very below average season. Lee is a fan favorite in Houston and they will be glad to have him back, on and off the court.
I did not expect Houston to bring back Budinger. The Rockets are stacked at the small forward spot with the emergence of Chandler Parsons and the young Marcus Morris looking for a fair shot at a rotation spot. Budinger is also a fan favorite in Houston and brings the second team lots of energy and scoring.
I think this is just the first of many moves GM Daryl Morey will make this offseason. Maybe signing these guys is apart of a bigger move. Pairing them with a big name or possibly using them as trade bait. I see Lee being apart of the Rockets plans for a long time unless something big comes up. I think Budinger could be had at the right price, especially if Marcus Morris makes significant process, which i think he can if coach Kevin McHale finally gives him a legitimate chance.
The NBA offseason is not even 48 hours old yet and the Rockets are already very much active. I donât expect things to slow down anytime soon. Red Nation is about to explode.
