2012 NFL Draft: Ryan Tannehill Has A Broken Foot, Per Agent

The Texas A&M quarterback has become a popular name on 2012 Draft boards, but injuries could cool the buzz that he's a hot sleeper pick.

Jan 12, 2012 - Former Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill's NFL Draft stock could be taking a significant hit, as he'll miss the upcoming Senior Bowl January 28. Joe Schad of ESPN confirmed the news with Tannehill's agent Pat Dye, and said there's a chance Tannehill might not participate in the NFL Combine, but could throw for scouts before the Draft.

Thanks in part to the commitments of USC quarterback Matt Barkley and Landry Jones of Oklahoma to return for their senior seasons, Tannehill's stock has risen dramatically in recent weeks, and he's now considered one of the best available QB options behind Stanford's Andrew Luck and Hesiman winner Robert Griffin III from Baylor. The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported the Browns were interested in Tannehill or Griffin with the fourth overall picks, while at SB Nation's latest mock draft at Mocking The Drafthad Tannehill going at No. 6 overall to the Washington Redskins:

This will strike a lot of people as being a reach but the Redskins simply cannot go another offseason without securing a long-term solution at QB. If they can't go up to get Griffin, Tannehill makes sense. While he might not have Top 10 talent, he is a guy who is slowly creeping his way into mid-late 1st round consideration and a good combine could get him selected a lot earlier than some are expecting. Tannehill is raw, but clearly a step ahead of most of the 2nd tier options.
