HOUSTON â" Houston Texans Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips wonât be interviewing for the Tampa Bay head-coaching job after all, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Phillips reportedly called Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik late Thursday and withdrew his name from consideration.
"I explained my reasons to Mark, and he understood," Phillips told the Chronicle. "The timing just wasnât right. The truth is I love it here. I love coaching for the Texans. Weâve got something magical going, and we want to keep it going."
Phillips said he didnât want to be a "perceived distraction" at such an important time for the team.
The Texans take on the Baltimore Ravens Sunday in the divisional round of the playoffs. If they win, they will advance to the AFC Championship Game.
