HOUSTON - We're just a few days away from the Texans' biggest game ever. Baltimore Beware! Houston fans are ramping up their spirit.
Houston's mayor and the Houston Independent School District have said Friday is âGo Houston Texans Dayâ.
Everyone is encouraged to wear Texans gear to work and school. Some fans, we found, are taking their commitment a step further.
At Urban Legendz Barber Shop on Highway 6 at Little York, the Texans certainly have the edge.
"In Houston, we represent from our head to our tattoos to our house shoes," said Eddie Delagarza, a customer.
In the ultimate showing of team pride, fans are getting the Texans logo shaved into their heads.
"I've had quite a few hit me up for appointments," said David Huerta, the barber behind the design.
Huerta is actually a Cowboys fan.
"I kind of like to think of it as the Cowboys fan keeping you guys fresh," said Huerta.
Across the city, Houstonians are after the latest gear to wear during the big game, but you won't find Mary Redding dressed in red, white or blue.
"I love Houston. I root for the Texans, just not when they're playing the Ravens," said Redding.
Her son is Ravens defensive tackle Cory Redding, a graduate of North Shore High School.
"That's my son and if he's on the moon, I'm going to get me some moon shoes and float around up there with him," said Redding.
She's always faced a dilemma rooting for teams. Both of her sons played against each other in college.
"The first half I sit on one side. The second half I sit on the next side, so it's evenly balanced out," said Redding.
Redding doesn't wear her son's jersey in Houston to avoid confrontation, but come Sunday she'll be in Baltimore free to wear all the purple she wants.
Houston fans will be there too, reminding her what is at stake.
"I'm going to continue to get this design on my head to the Super Bowl," said Vincent Nguyen, one of Huerta's customers.
Huerta can be reached at 254-379-5896.
