Houston Texans players as The Avengers - Houston Chronicle (blog)

This is The Avengers as cast by @Northside_Mike. My casting is a little different.

Saw The Avengers with the family the first night it came out. Loved it. With movies like that, I like to see them early in their run so that the ad previews don’t ruin everything.

Because the human brain thinks odd thoughts, there’s been some discussion among fans that if you were casting The Avengers, using Texans players, who would be in what role. Got various suggestions on Twitter. Antonio Smith says he’d be Nick Fury:

I could see that. Eye patch characters are usually pretty cool. Also, not too many Avenger characters of color to choose from, unless you count green.

Here’s the rest of my own personal Avengers’ casting:

Captain America: JJ Watt. Watt’s personal mantra, “Dream Big Work Hard” is a sentimental, old fashion Captain American point of view. His story from humble beginnings is very Captain America though I am guessing he was never a frail kid like Steve Rogers.

JJ Watt looks good in the red, white, and blue, and if you were to have a Houston Texan player who would punch Hitler square in the face, I could see Watt being good at that sort of thing.

Strong consideration would have had to be given to DeMeco “Cap” Ryans had he stayed with the team for that spot.

Hulk: Though there were many suggestions for who should be the Hulk, to me it has to be Brian Cushing. Headbutting a guy with no helmet on? Bloody face? There’s the Brian Cushing of interviews that seems quiet and reserved, and then there’s the guy who shows up in the NFL Sound F/X videos who seems very Hulk.

Thor: Brooks Reed. It’s the hair.

Hard not to go with James Casey, as he’s been Thor since his days at Rice. But I don’t think Casey as a blond works.

Iron Man: Iron Man is the hardest character to cast for me. He’s a normal sized dude in a Iron Man costume, and there’s not that many normal sized dudes that play for the Texans.

Maybe for Iron Man, I go with Connor Barwin. I think he’d be up for being a billionaire do-gooder who tries to use technology to make the world a better place. And also for kicking ass.

Perhaps The Houston Texans Avengers would be a good theme for one of the On The Nose videos the Texans produce. Sadly, I’m guessing the costumes needed to pull it off don’t actually come in the super hero sizes that the players would require.

Do you take issue with my casting? Have anything to add? On Twitter some suggested that I’d be a good Black Widow. Um no. Though I probably wear more black than I should, that would involve depriving myself of most carbohydrates and acquiring various implants and whatnot.

Besides, Texans Chick is a much better super hero character. Tailgating is a very underrated super power.
