The Houston Rockets enter an offseason filled with questions about somehow acquiring that franchise-changing big man.
General manager Daryl Morey will have yet another chance to find a way to bring in a big man to Houston, as he has some nice young pieces to offer and a couple of first-round picks as well.
However, another question that must be answered this offseason is what to do about Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic heading into free agency?
Dragic was able to fill in for Lowry late in the season and averaged 11.7 points and 5.3 assists per game as the Rockets were able to put together wins in order to make a serious push toward the postseason.
The Rockets did not qualify for the playoffs, but Dragic did raise his value around the league as he is set to enter free agency starting July 1.
Being an unrestricted free agent, Dragic is more than likely to come across large offers that the Rockets may have a tough time matching (especially due to the financial implications going forward).
Lowry was the starting point guard coming into the season and continued his steady play on both ends of the basketball court. Lowry averaged 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds to go along with 6.6 assists per game, proving that he has an all-around game and is an integral part of the Rockets' offensive spark.
There was a window during the season where Lowry missed 15 games (between March 7 and April 7) dealing with a sports hernia and torn abductor muscles. Dragic replaced Lowry during this time and when Lowry returned, head coach Kevin McHale played him off the bench.
At the end of the season, Lowry did say that he was not happy with the way McHale handled his return and that he is not sure that he and head coach Kevin McHale can co-exist going forward.
Daryl Morey cannot afford to lose both players since it would lead to more rebuilding in Houston.
