Astros owner considers name change, announces new food policy

HOUSTON â€" New Houston Astros owner Jim Crane is considering changing the name of the franchise as well as its uniforms.
Crane says the team will conduct a study to decide whether or not to change the name. He says switching uniforms is something they are "highly considering."
Any changes wouldn’t happen until 2013 when Houston makes the move from the National League to the American League.
Crane’s comments came at an event to announce several fan initiatives. The biggest move is a 5 percent rebate on full-season and 27-game season ticket accounts that are renewed by Jan. 31.
The outfield deck seat will only cost $5 for adults and $1 for children ages 3-14. Adult tickets were $7 in 2011. With the lower prices, a family of four can now attend an Astros game for $12.
The Astros will also allow fans to bring water and a small amount of food inside the stadium.
“We feel this is the right thing to do,†Crane said. “It is one way for us to let our fans know how vital they are to our success, and to let them know we’ve been listening to them.â€
As a part of the new policy, food must be brought in a small, see-through plastic bag, and water must be brought in a plastic bottle one liter or less in size. Only one bottle of water per person is allowed.
Additionally, the Astros have expanded the $5 beer special to include every permanent concession stand and bar at Minute Maid Park where domestic beer is sold.Â
