HOUSTON â" Forget Dallas â" the biggest "D" in Texas these days is right here in Houston.
Weâre talking, of course, about the Houston Texansâ defense.
Youâve seen them punish their opponents all season under Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips. Youâve seen the statistics, youâve seen the strength, and youâve seen the swagger.
And now, they have a name: "Bulls on Parade."
According to HoustonTexans.com, outside linebacker Connor Barwin introduced the nickname after a suggestion from one of his Twitter followers.
("Bulls on Parade" was a hit song for the rock band Rage Against the Machine back in the 90s.)
Barwin apparently loved the idea, and the team was introduced to the song before the Texans-Falcons game on December 4, HoustonTexans.com reported.
Ever since then, when the Texans "D" has taken the field at Reliant, the speakers have cranked up that tune â" and the players have responded in a big way.
Fans took to the theme immediately. Before long, the nickname started popping up in blogs, on Twitter and even on Wikipedia.
In fact, Fans Onlyâ"an official NFL player licensee â" recently contacted a Houston printer to have "Bulls on Parade" T-shirts made.
The shirts, which feature the nickname, plus images of DeMeco Ryans, Connor Barwin, Brooks Reed and Brian Cushing, went on sale Wednesday at participating Kroger stores in the Houston area.
Needless to say, they werenât expected to last long.
Go Texans!
