Here's a great feature in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times on budding Rockets point guard star Kyle Lowry.
What does this one cover? Well, for starters it takes down the flawed All-Star voting system that sees guys who have no business being in the game garnering big point totals. It then moves on to point out how small markets should be recognized just as much as the big ones like L.A. Then, it transitions into making a case for Lowry based on his improvement in things like usage rate and other fancy stats.
Basically, it's a smart, thorough argument that makes a ton of sense. Lowry has blossomed into a star and is probably the best choice off Houston's squad to go to the All-Star game this season. However, he likely will be shut out since he doesn't have the name recognition. If this were baseball, he'd definitely get voted into one of their 50 spots.
But, this is basketball, who tries to have a fan-friendly All-Star experience but misses the mark in so many ways. This article was just a good reminder of that.
In other news, the guy who wrote it is in high school and won't be going to college until this fall. I'd say he's got a pretty bright future writing about sports.
