Texans Vs. Titans Final Score: Houston Drops Season Finale 23-22 To Tennessee

In what could be classified as an unlikely turn of events, the Tennessee Titans survived today with a 23-22 win over the Houston Texans to keep their playoff hopes alive at least for the moment.

The Titans took a 23-16 lead when Matt Hasselbeck hit Nate Washington for a 23 yard scoring strike with just 4:39 remaining in the game. After the Titans forced a Texans punt all that was left was to run the clock out for Tennesee. However, the Texans got the ball back after Titans fullback Ahmard Hall fumbled with just 1:49 remaining.

Jake Delhomme and the Texans' offense responded with a seven play, 36 yard drive and a five yard touchdown pass to Bryant Johnson to make the score 23-22. Houston coach Gary Kubiak opted to go for two and the win in an effort to avoid playing an overtime period and not risking further injury to any of its players with the playoffs beginning next week.

Before the Texans could make the attempt, tight end Joel Dreessen was flagged for a false-start penalty that backed the Texans up five yards. On the next attempt with Delhomme in the shotgun, the ball was snapped over his head and recovered by the Titans. Tennessee recovered the ensuing onside kick from the Texans and successfully ran the clock out for the victory.
