Houston Astros hit 3 triples in 1st inning - San Francisco Chronicle

Houston Astros' Jose Altuve points after he doubled in two runs during the sixth inning against the Washington Nationals.

WASHINGTON - Houston set a franchise record by hitting three triples in a five-run first inning, backing starter Bud Norris with a season-high 17 hits Thursday night.

The triples by Jose Altuve, right, Brian Bogusevic and Matt Downs came off Edwin Jackson. Bogusevic's and Downs' were back-to-back.

Houston, which had lost four straight, also set a season high for runs. It was the 13th time the Astros had three triples in a game and the first time they had three in an inning in their 51-year history.

According to STATS LLC, the MLB record for most triples in an inning is five, set by the White Sox on Sept. 15, 1901.
