Houston Texans Cheerleader Tweets Advice to Prospective Auditioners: A Fan's View - Yahoo! Sports

With the Houston Texans' cheerleading audition date rapidly approaching, Texans' cheer veteran, Sarah, is using Twitter to help cheerleading hopefuls get into shape by the Apr. 14 auditions.

"Skipped the sandwich and am having a salad for lunch today," she tweeted on Apr. 10 from her official Twitter handle @htc_sarah. "Not nearly as good, but worth it! Only 4 days to get in audition shape!"

Since March 28, Sarah has posted one special tip each day as advice for Texans' cheerleading hopefuls. In her first week of audition tips, she covered the basics like stretching techniques and advice on taking dance classes, but she expanded her coverage since the calendar turned to April.

On Apr. 6, she tweeted "Audition Tip #10: Bring snacks and lots of water to auditions! It can be a rather long evening and you don't want to lose your energy."

This is an absolute essential, as just a little bit of hydration can make all the difference between a sub-par performance and a standout high-energy effort. Professional cheerleading requires tons of cardio and endurance, so fueling up on water or Gatorade is a must. Proper hydration can not only elevate your overall sports performance, but recharge your lost fluids and electrolytes.

On Apr. 7, Sarah's tip of the day was even more compelling. She tweeted "Audition Tip #11: Don't be intimidated by others around you! Focus on doing your best. You never know what the judges are looking for."

With dozens of beautiful, talented women swarming to the auditions, it's easy to get overwhelmed and lose confidence. It's important to keep your focus and realize the goal of making the roster is quite attainable despite the fierce competition.

Sarah's audition tip on Apr. 8 was "Audition Tip #12: If you mess up, keep going! Don't show it in your face. The judges may not have even seen it. Look confident at all times!"

This one is key because everyone makes mistakes. It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters. Dealing with adversity is a very real part of life, and it's important to show you have the will and determination to overcome whatever is thrown in your path to become an elite-level dancer.

On Apr. 9, Sarah tweeted "Audition Tip #13: Don't forget to turn in a GOOD photo! They want to see that you're photogenic since we take LOTS & LOTS of pictures!"

Pro cheerleaders appear in an annual swimsuit calendar, as well as various videos and other photo opportunities, so there's a lot that goes into it. Relax, smile and have fun, and you'll be sure to look great.

Later that day, Sarah posted "5 days!! If you haven't registered yet, do it today! #HTCTryouts are this Saturday, April 14th. See you there!"

The Texans' cheerleading auditions will be held on Apr. 14 at the Methodist Training Center in Houston, TX.

Eric Holden cheers for the New York Jets football team, but he is a lifelong supporter of the Houston Texans' cheerleading squad because they are incredibly talented and one of the sexiest teams in the NFL. Follow him on Twitter @ericholden.
