Jeremy Lin is upset the New York Knicks didn't move to re-sign him before the Houston Rockets' proposed $29-million offer sheet, according to the New York Daily News.
The undrafted point guard out of Harvard who sparked "Linsanity" this past season has been assured repeatedly by the Knicks that they'll match any offer, but that may not be enough, a source told the paper.
âHe was surprised that the Knicks didnât make the first move," a league source told the Daily News. âThey know theyâve got to mend some fences with him because he believes what the Rockets have told him, that the Knicks werenât as interested as they are."
Lin responded to the report Wednesday via Twitter, saying: "Lol why do u guys believe everything? No quotes from me = probably not true."
The Rockets' offer sheet can become official with Lin's signature Wednesday, which also is when the Knicks can match the offer.
"They will match any offer on Lin up to 1 billion dollars," a source told ESPN's Marc Stein.
Lin made $788,000 last season after several teamsâ"including the Knicks and Rocketsâ"gave up on him at different points. Lin averaged 14.6 points and 6.2 assists in 35 games for New York before undergoing season-ending knee surgery.
He was optimistic about returning with a contract that reflected his improved play and apparently is miffed that it took another team's offer sheet for the Knicks to back up their verbal support with more money.
âWhat he has to learn is that itâs not personal," the source told the Daily News. âThe Knicks merely played by the rules."
