Will The Houston Texans Give Matt Schaub An Extension? - SB Nation (blog)

The Houston Texans acquired Matt Schaub to get them to the postseason. Last season they finally got there, but Schaub was on the sideline for the playoff run with a Lisfranc injury.

As Schaub enters a contract year, a debate about whether or not to given him an extension exists.

Houston Chronicle writer John McClain told ProFootballTalk that an extension is not on the horizon anytime soon.

"They are not going to give him an extension until he proves that he can stay healthy," McClain said.

Schaub has played a full season just twice in five seasons with the Texans. While he's often been hurt, he has been very effective when he is on the field. He has thrown 92 touchdowns compared to 52 interceptions behind center for Houston and led the NFL in completions and passing yards in 2009.

Schaub will enter the 2012 season at 31 years old.
