It has been reported that Head Coach Kevin McHale and former Houston Rockets point guard Aaron Brooks met with each other Sunday evening. The Rockets have a huge hole at point guard and are looking for someone to fill it.

Brooks was traded from the Rockets just a year and a half ago to the Phoenix Suns for Goran Dragic. Now Dragic is back in Phoenix and Brooks could possibly come back to Houston. Funny how the NBA works sometimes.

Brooks was traded due to the emergence of point guard Kyle Lowry and him falling out of favor with Head Coach Rick Adelman and the Rockets front office. He didn’t play in the NBA last season, but did play professionally in China. His best year came with the Rockets in the 2009-2010 season. Brooks started all 82 games and averaged 19.6 points, 5.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 35 minutes a game.

I don’t think Brooks would be such a great fit in Houston this time around. He showed that he’s a hothead and a shoot first point guard. He’s a below average playmaker and passer. It seemed like every other play Bill Worrell screamed out “Brooks for three!” I don’t think i can handle anymore of that. The Rockets have also been tied to other point guards, such as Raymond Felton, Ramon Sessions and Jeremy Lin, who are all superior to Brooks in my opinion. Brooks is quick, but much smaller than most guards. I think Brooks is better suited to come off the bench for a contending team, but could find a starting spot with the lower level teams.

Both sides seem interested in each other. Brooks needs a job and the Rockets are being cautious about bringing Aaron back on board. They know he has talent, but has he matured mentally? I think the Rockets should go in a different direction and let the past stay the past. If the Knicks match the Rockets offer for Lin, they should turn their head towards Ramon Sessions.
