HOUSTON - Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he is looking forward to coaching the AFC in the Pro Bowl with his staff on Jan. 29 in Hawaii.
The Texans will coach the AFC in the Pro Bowl later this month because they were the team with the best record eliminated in the divisional playoffs.
Same goes for the Green Bay Packers coaching staff which will handle the NFC.
"It's not the next game we wanted to coach in," said Kubiak in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "We wanted to go to New England.
"It'll be exciting. We'll have some of our players there. It's a nice reward for the coaches and their wives to get away and relax a little bit. Hopefully, we'll go there and won't screw them up."
Kubiak mentioned that the Texans will have players in the Pro Bowl and he was referring to running back Arian Foster and cornerback Johnathan Joseph.
Other Texans players who are alternates have an outside shot at getting to the Pro Bowl to replace injured players, or replace players who are headed to the Super Bowl.
Kubiak considers it an honor to coach in the Pro Bowl.
"Oh yea very much so," Kubiak said. "My wife reminded me last night that when I left Denver to come here the Denver staff coached the Pro Bowl that next week, but I was a little busy here.
"She told me I owed her one. So I guess everything worked out."
Kubiak has never coached in the Pro Bowl.
"It's a chance to mingle with all of those players that you compete against all of the time,be around the NFC," Kubiak said. "The Packers' coaches are going to do the NFC. So it'll be a great week."
Kubiak said it will be "special" to get the opportunity to spend time with players and coaches that you only know as competitors.
"That is special because you spend your time trying to beat each other all of the time and then here we get a chance to spend a whole week together," Kubiak said. "The respect you have for the coaches and the players in this league and the job that they do, I'm looking forward to it.
"There are a lot of guys I know from a competitive standpoint, but I don't know them personally. So I'm looking forward to getting to know them."
