It's the second week of the NFL Preseason on Saturday night as the San Fransisco 49ers travel to take on the Houston Texans. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 pm EST start time and it will be televised locally. Currently the odds have the Texans favored by 3 points.
The second week of the NFL Preseason has some quality games on the docket and tonight's game between the 49ers and Texans is on that list. Both teams come into tonight's game with a 1-0 record. The 49ers were able to beat the Vikings 17-6 last week in a game that saw them roll up 412 yards of offense but only score 17 points against a bad Vikings team. QB Alex Smith had a pretty decent first drive, completing all three of his passes â" one of which went for a touchdown. San Fransisco had three quarterbacks play in addition to Smith in Scott Tolzien, Colin Kaepernick and Josh Johnson. All four of them could also see time tonight as head coach Jim Harbaugh attempts to figure out just how he is going to use that position. My guess is that Tolzien will probably be the odd man out, but he did play a lot more than any of the other three in the team's first game. For Houston, it's a matter of continuing to play solid defense. The Texans didn't allow the Panthers to score in the second half in the team's first game, beating them 26-13. They also gave up just 137 yards of total offense to Carolina in that contest. Will there be more of the same tonight? Houston has the potential to be a Super Bowl caliber team and the defense is the biggest reason for that. Even though tonight is just another exhibition game, the Texans fans will fuel this team to play good, fundamental football tonight. Matt Schaub looks like he is going to get the start, but it's hard to tell how much time he will actually see in tonight's game.
Free Pick: We like the under in this game. How could you not like the under? We have two of the best defenses in the NFL in an exhibition game that will not see a lot of first team offensive players see the field. In the regular season we'd definitely play the under in this game, but I think there is also a lot of value in tonight's under.
