On Black Monday, the Indianapolis Colts were one of three teams to oust a big section of their leadership, firing team president Bill Polian and his son, GM Chris Polian. Neither move was surprising, considering how little talent Indy has collected in recent years.
However, it's just one more sign of the talent level leaving the AFC South, and I'm not talking about player talent. No, the front offices in the division have nose-dived pretty precipitously lately. With Jeff Fisher leaving Tennessee and now the Polians out in Indy, Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak are suddenly the patriarchs of the AFC South.
It also sets up a situation where Houston could be the a power for the next few years, simply because they have continuity. The Titans threatened this season, but face some turnover on offense and need Jake Locker to play like he did in spurts this season.
I know Smithiak has been on a roll recently, picking up J.J. Watt and Johnathan Joseph and even getting T.J. Yates as a semi-competent backup backup. It's weird to think of them as the class of the division in the front office, but that may very well be the case now.
