Phillips says he had gall bladder removed

Wade Phillips HOUSTON -

Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips says he had gall bladder surgery that forced him to miss two games.

The 64-year-old Phillips went on medical leave on Dec. 14. He returned last week and worked from the press box in Sunday's 23-22 loss to Tennessee. He'll work from there again when the Texans (10-6) play Cincinnati (9-7) in the playoffs.

Phillips says his energy level is still low, but didn't give more details about his condition.

Houston's defense made a remarkable turnaround in Phillips' first season.

Phillips was fired as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys midway through the 2010 season. Despite his health issues, Phillips says he "should be considered" for a head coaching job, though he's not looking to leave Houston.
