HOUSTON - The last time a Houston NFL team reached the playoffs was in 1994 when the Houston Oilers faced the Kansas City Chiefs and lost inside the Astrodome.
Three-time Pro Bowl wide reciever Haywood Jeffires was on that Oilers team and tells FOX 26 News he will be in attendance Jan. 7 when the Houston Texans face the Cincinnati Bengals at Reliant Stadium during the Texans' first playoff appearance in team history, but hopefully not the last one of the postseason.
The origin of professional football in Houston was based on what drove the local economy in the 1960s: oil.
The Harris County Domed Stadium, known as the Astrodome, was the first of its kind in the U.S. when it was erected and history was made again in the 2000s in Houston with the construction of Reliant Stadium, the first retractable roof football stadium in the U.S. With a seating capacity of 71,500, Reliant Stadium cost $352 million to build.
Mark Cornish, Senior Executive Chef for Aramark-Reliant Park, is responsible for feeding the Texans player and staff.
