The NFL Draft is less than a week away and NFL teams are figuring out exactly which players look good in hopes of improving their roster for the 2012 season. The Houston Texans have the 26th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and will be looking mostly at helping their trio of offensive superstars get better as they attempt to defend their AFC South title.
Here is a look at the top areas that Houston will work on with the 2012 NFL Draft.
Wide Receivers
Andre Johnson is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. There are few people that possess the hands, power and determination that Johnson brings to the Texans. However, the other side of the field is in need of help. Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones have been trying to make their name over the last few years but are not quality starters in the NFL. The fact that Johnson is injury prone also hurts the passing game for Houston. The Texans need an explosive weapon at this position.
Possibilities: Kendall Wright (Baylor), Rueben Randle (LSU)
Nose Tackle
When Wade Phillips came to Houston, they switched over to the 3-4 and both Shaun Cody and Earl Mitchell worked at nose tackle. While both men are fine defensive tackles, they are too small to serve as an everyday nose tackle in the NFL. Houston may look to the NFL Draft to find a bigger nose tackle with experience at the position.
Possibilities: Ben Jones (Georgia), Josh Chapman (Alabama)
Offensive Guard
The Houston Texans played the best year of their franchise's history in 2011 despite losing their starting quarterback and backup quarterback to injuries. This year, the Texans need to find a way to keep Matt Schaub healthy and that starts with the offensive line. They re-signed center Chris Meyers but let guard Mike Brisiel go via free agency. Wade Smith is not the answer.
Possibilities: Ben Jones (Georgia), Senio Kelemete (Washington)
