James played his entire career with the Cowboys. He played for defensive coordinator Wade Phillips when he was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

James is expected to compete with Darryl Sharpton for the starting weak-side linebacker job that’s available after DeMeco Ryans was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. Sharpton is recovering from season-ending surgery for a torn quad muscle.
