Colorado Rockies Vs. Houston Astros 5/28/12: Mitch's Free MLB Baseball Pick - Sports Chat Place

The Colorado Rockies and Houston Astros meet on Monday for game one of their double header at Coors Field.

The Colorado Rockies are going through a tough season as while they have a nice lineup their pitching staff just isn’t good enough to get it done on a regular basis. The Rockies are 2-8 in their last 10 games, 9-14 at home this season, and they are 14 games out of first place. As a team the Rockies are hitting .253 with Carlos Gonzalez hitting .302, Troy Tulowitzki hitting .278, and Michael Cuddyer hitting .272. As a team the Rockies pitching staff has an ERA of 5.16 with the starters at 5.65 and the bullpen at 4.36. For game one against the Astros Colorado starts Juan Nicasio who has lost his last two decisions. For the season Nicasio has allowed 59 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 48 over 50.1 innings of work for a 4.83 ERA.

The Houston Astros have lost their last two games coming into this series after beating Clayton Kershaw on Friday but the way the Dodgers are playing this weekend there is no shame in that. Houston is 6-4 in their last 10 games, 6-15 on the road this season, and they are five games back in the N.L. Central. As a team Houston is hitting .243 with Jose Altuve hitting .309, Carlos Lee hitting .301, and Chris Johnson hitting .289. As a team the Astros pitching staff has an ERA of 3.45 with the starters at 3.67 and the bullpen at 3.97. For game one against the Rockies Houston starts Wandy Rodriguez who won last time out after a personal two decision losing streak. For the season Rodriguez has allowed 59 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 45 over 67.1 innings of work for a 2.14 ERA.

Colorado is 7-21 in their last 28 games overall, 1-5 in their last six games against a left handed starter, and 0-4 in Nicasio’s last four starts. Houston is 7-3 in their last 10 game one of a series, 15-46 in their last 51 road games, and 1-4 in Rodriguez’s last five road starts. Houston is 0-4 in Rodriguez last four starts against Colorado.

The total is set at 9.5 and I have this one just barely going over that number though this pick is just a lean. I have a strong play on who will win and I will post that in the Premium Area.
